On Thursday afternoon, I came across a friend’s post that asked that question. It made me think that we’re not. Honestly, I am not, at that time. However, I tried contemplating that question. I often heard that lots of times, yet I failed to answer it with all honesty. For me, no. We are not really happy. And I think the sole reason we are not really happy is the perpetual longing for someone or something, that will bring that happiness.
Sometimes we are grappling with the idea that happiness is tangled through a person’s response to our actions. We message them, and then they ‘seen zoned’ us. At times, we think that happiness is caused when someone intently cares for us or shows that love the way we wanted it to be. We think they are the ‘happiness ‘. Well, in fact, it isn’t. Happiness has a partition between a person and an event or of a feeling.
You can say she or he is your happiness, yet that person fails to manifest it. Isn’t happiness still existent if the very person or a thing that you consider “happiness” failed to make you happy? I came to somewhat realized that we aren’t happy because someone, somewhere, we still long they would give that feeling. The sad part here is that it isn’t guaranteed. I remember how Trolls gave a message that says “Happiness is inside you”.
Poppy once said that,
“Happiness isn’t something you put inside, it’s already there. Sometimes you just need someone to help you find it.”

Notice what Poppy said, “sometimes, you just need someone to help you find it”. She made a clear point there that we are in “need of help” for ‘someone to find it’.
What I understand with that is we need ‘help’ in order to find it, because it is already there. Poppy made a great point that our happiness doesn’t necessarily lean on someone, but to let that someone ‘help us to find’ it. Meaning, we are going to look for it for ourselves. You are the last person standing for yourself and you have to be a good cheerleader of your own. Because if not, who will be?
It only means that we are in need of a reminder of a friend or whomever that will remind us that it is inside, we don’t need someone or something to be that happiness itself because they couldn’t give it, their role is to only for us to remember we are carrying, all along, that happiness we long for so many times, inside of us, and if we come to know that it is inside of us, we can say “we are really happy” for we will learn to not depend on it to anyone or anything—because people will always fall short.
But if your definition of happiness is a sweet smile, and a coffee drink or a beach day stroll, and or a good book whilst digging up a deep conversation with a person, I guess for once in your life you were, in one way or another, experienced happiness in its larger spectrum. But we can always be happy even if the world around us refuse to be—and that’s joy.
We aren’t supposed to be “really happy”, because we are bound to be joyful, and that is another level of happiness that fights all the ’despites’ just to remain in the waves of tranquility and contentment amidst the life’s turmoils.
