Iron, Fe (an element, sometimes…)

Everybody loves iron man, at least in my own opinion. In that everybody, Ale is included. I don’t know why people adore such superheroes, I mean, hello there is Captain America. I loved Captain America even though I am not from America. One night at the same spot we have settled ourselves, again, Ale got me a question about why I don’t have a favorite Avenger superhero. Alright, I have. I told you it’s Captain America. I just don’t quite say it out loud to him because I don’t want to argue why I don’t choose Iron Man.

“I know Iron Man is common. But you can always make him as a model, you know?” He stood up, getting my hand for an invitation to a dance. That was not an ordinary night at Green Village’s park. It was the night before December 1, and most people gathered at the place to celebrate the 1st day of the yuletide season. The gigantic speakers were on and coincidentally the music fell at Fire Flies by Owl City.

Okay, I said it is unfortunate because I did an aversion to that song a long time ago since I can’t stand hearing it. Can’t stand hearing it in a way that makes me fantasize A LOT. And fantasizing is unhealthy at times. I grabbed his arm, of course. But instead of dancing, as the thought I thought it was at first, wasn’t. He just stood up there looking at me, four inches away, to be exact.

“What’s one of the most common chemical elements on Earth?” He asked.

“Fe. Atomic number 26.” I replied.

He didn’t talk. I suspect he was waiting for me to say more about it. I was right. The danger of Ale is that he wants something more than what meets the eye. Thank God I was able to have a quick look at my science space, my little cork board in my bedroom before leaving the house.

“Metal. A transition metal. Malleable. Common chemical element on earth as mass is concerned”. I told Ale that is all that I got. For sure he is not satisfied. He was watching me by the eyes as I persistently avoid it by listening to Fire Flies.

“Mars. 14 percent iron. That’s why it is called a red planet because of the iron
oxide. Okay, that’s all
.” I spoke.

“Does iron glow?” He asked.

“Well, Iron Man has that heart something in the center between his chest, so yeah, possible.” I laughed in the ridicule that I had already run out of iron’s idea.

“798 K.“ he started off saying.

“Take for instance an iron bar. If heated it turns red, low energy. Next, yellow, and yes, finally it starts to glow. White light than blue light.” He cleared his throat and continued.

“The catch?” He asked me.

“However, as the iron bar is being heated, the radiation being emitted is more energized. Shorter is the wavelength, crossing the visible light spectrum, he finished.

“A molten iron was once an iron bar,” I said, but I found his explanation vague, as it is maybe too much to put into a person like me all at once. The song by Owl City was fading as it ended with, ‘coz my dreams are bursting at the
seam’.

“So why not Iron Man?” He asked.

“It’s common.” I retorted.

“Just because it is iron it’s common? and just because it is common you don’t
buy the idea?” He asked again.

“If that is being looked up to by everyone because it is ‘common’, please understand this contextually, and or whatever you want, then no. I don’t want to be everybody else, Ale.” I explained.

“Ale, specific wavelengths bound to stimulate retina in one’s eye,” I told him, hoping he could get what I meant.

“Maybe you’re at your Redpoint right now.” He answered.

I looked at him for a while and realized what he just said.

“Context matters.” He winked at me as if trying to convince me I am not in the mood
and that I understood what he said.

“…and you are at your Violet.

I told him as I sat down and grabbed a pineapple can juice at my picnic basket.

He loves Iron man, but Ale isn’t common. A paradox.

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
