Think of something that you cannot really let go… just one thing. That is something so hard for you to let go.
If it isn’t GOD, then you have other gods. This question is pretty intriguing, & it made me extra uncomfortable thinking about it. More than that, it makes me extra embarrassed because I am a Christian. I believe in the GOD of the Bible. I believe in the Triune GOD. I believe in CHRIST. I have been convinced of GOD’s existence not by blind faith, but with real historical accounts & the exposure of expository preaching, I thought I knew HIM well already, not until that question popped out. Not a single moment had I thought about GOD. I was just dozing off and thinking, “Is it my career?” “My education & dreams?” But my brain did not register “GOD” as my single answer.
And it made me rethink my life’s choices. It made me reevaluate my Christian life. Maybe it is filled with worldly glory guised in “this is for GOD.” Really? Sometimes we do things for the sake of ourselves only. Even though we say “Glory to GOD” at the end of every achievement, do we really mean it? Do we glorify GOD in the process? What if we don’t? What if we use such phrases just to justify ourselves from not being called “boastful”?
I mean, because in this era of time, there are plenty of things that take our attention away from GOD. What is the thing that takes most of your time, especially if it takes most of your time not remembering GOD? How I love this fast-paced world we are living in because it provides ease & comfort, but such things sometimes pull us away from GOD. Sometimes our time scrolling aimlessly in socmed takes a huge chunk of time. How about binge-watching a series? Or that constant worry about a thing that wore you out and completely forgetting you still have a GOD?
Sometimes these things that we thought are ordinary in our daily lives—those things that don’t serve their purpose, sometimes, those are our gods…
I am not saying we won’t be watching our favorite shows, nor use socmed, nor do leisures for relaxation. What I mean is if these things are more time-consuming than us cleaving unto GOD, let alone thinking about HIM in the midst of it, then it isn’t good.
It’s so easy to be tempted & drift away from GOD, especially since this world offers counterfeits. And if we Christians are not aware of it, we will really think we are glorifying GOD, but really, we are just pleasing ourselves, trying to indirectly show a Christian play-pretend. Of course, there’s no “fake it until you make it.”
If we are really changed and have new natures, and if we profess that we are followers of CHRIST, then one thing I am gonna ask: “Is it GOD that is so hard for you let go?” Or is there anything else? Maybe the answers are classified, but may we, by the grace of GOD, see HIM as our greatest pursuit. More than HIS providence & redemption that did miracles in our lives, I pray we continue to be in awe and give HIM the glory HE alone deserves, because whether we like it or not, HE is GOD alone from before time began, and HE continues and WILL continue to reign forevermore.
It is but rightfully so to give HIM the honor HE deserves.
Have a beautiful week being aware of HIS majesty.
